CE Attends National People’s Congress, Meets with Mainland Authorities

Macao SAR Chief Executive (CE) Chui Sai On attended the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in March in Beijing, in addition to holding a series of meetings with central government departments during his visit. Upon arriving in Macao, Chui Sai On outlined several routes integrating Macao further into the country's development, making better use of the supporting measures for Macao laid down by the Central Government.

During his stay in Beijing, Chui also met with Minister of Education Chen Baosheng, the Director of the State General Administration of Sports and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, Gou Zhongwen, and the Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Qiu Yuanping. The CE referred to the results of past co-operation and said he would continue to deepen co-operation in the future. Chui also exchanged opinions and suggestions regarding the Macao SAR's participation in the 'Belt and Road' Initiative.

While sharing new policies and aspirations that had been set out in the recently concluded sessions of the NPC and CPPCC, Chui outlined opportunities for the further integration of Macao in the country's development as follows: making use of Macao's unique advantages by expediting goals set out in Macao's Five-Year Development Plan - in particular, the transformation of Macao into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure and a commercial and trade co-operation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, fostering the diversified and sustainable development of the economy.

In addition, together with Guangdong Province and Fujian Province, the MSAR would actively participate in the 'Belt and Road' Initiative and strengthen its connections with regional partners whilst launching a study on the initiative of a city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In addition, speeding up cross-boundary infrastructure projects, such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and new accessibilities between Guangdong and Macao, and more would be priorities.

Chui made the remarks at a briefing session on 17th March in Macao sharing new policies and aspirations that had been set out in the recently concluded sessions of the NPC and the CPPCC, The CE also remarked upon Macao's integration into the country's development plan. The Vice Chairman of the CPPCC, Ho Hau Wa, and the Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, Wang Zhimin, also attended and shared their thoughts during the briefing session.
