• Close to 2000 organisations operate in the expanding cultural industry

Service Receipts of Cultural Industry Soar 9.7 per cent in 2016

Information provided by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicate that a total of 1913 organisations were operating in the four core domains of cultural industries in Macao in 2016, namely 'Creative design', 'Cultural exhibitions & performances', 'Art collection' and 'Digital media', representing an increase of 200 year-on-year.

The total Service Receipts of the cultural industries grew by 9.7 per cent year-on-year to MOP6.86 billion. Gross Value Added - measuring the sectoral contribution to the economy - increased 8.5 per cent to MOP2.24 billion, accounting for 0.6 per cent of total Gross Value Added of all economic activities of Macao in 2016, the same proportion as in 2015.

Some 1021 organisations were operating in 'Creative design', up by 100 year-on-year. Service Receipts amounted to MOP1.8 billion, with Gross Value Added MOP0.61 billion, down 1.3 per cent and 2.9 per cent, respectively; nevertheless, they still comprised the second largest shares in the cultural industries.

Meanwhile, there were 218 organisations operating in 'Cultural exhibitions & performances', up 49 year-on-year. Service Receipts of MOP1.46 billion represented a growth of 8.2 per cent year-on-year, with ticket sales accounting for 56 per cent of the total. Gross Value Added amounted to MOP 0.29 billion, up 26.3 per cent.

Some 110 organisations operated in 'Art collection', up by one year-on-year. Service Receipts brought in MOP0.13 billion, while Gross Value Added was MOP53.14 million, an increase of 45.5 per cent and 55.8 per cent, respectively.

There were 564 organisations operating in 'Digital media', an increase of 50 year-on-year. Service Receipts amounted to MOP3.48 billion and Gross Value Added MOP1.28 billion, constituting the largest shares of the four domains of the cultural industries, comprising 50.6 per cent and 57.4 per cent of the respective total.
