Macao SAR bestows Medal of Merit for Tourism

The presentation ceremony of decorations, medals and Certificates of Merit awarded for 2018 by the Macao SAR is scheduled early this month, following the announcement of awardees on 19th December, 2018.

Macao member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Chan Meng Kam, receives the Decoration of Honour - Golden Lotus. Permanent Honorable President of the Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers, Fong Chi Keong, Chairman of Tai Fung Bank Limited, Ho Hao Tong, President of the Monitoring Committee on Discipline of the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) Personnel, Kwan Tsui Hang, and gold medal winner of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta - men's Nanquan-Nangun category, Huang Junhua - will receive the Decoration of Honour - Silver Lotus. Sai Nam Restaurant and Kapok Cantonese Restaurant will receive the Medal of Merit - Tourism.

The awards for Decoration of Honour include the Decoration of Honour - Grand Lotus, the Decoration of Honour - Golden Lotus, and the Decoration of Honour - Silver Lotus. These awards are presented to individuals or entities deemed to have made outstanding contributions to the image and reputation of the Macao SAR.

Seven types of Medal of Merit are to be awarded, embracing the professions, industry and commerce, tourism, education, culture, philanthropy and sport. Each of the awards in these categories is for individuals or entities making major or excellent contributions to their respective fields.

One of the Medal of Merit - Tourism recipients, Sai Nam Restaurant located on Rua da Felicidade, is a half century-old restaurant. The new owner of the restaurant - Tong Fok Veng - is dedicated to exploring new techniques on cooking and continually improving his dishes. The restaurant is also widely appreciated for promoting Macao gastronomy and its devotion to community welfare.

Another Medal of Merit - Tourism receiver, Kapok Cantonese Restaurant, is a quarter of a century-old restaurant dedicated to traditional Cantonese delicacies. The restaurant, steeped in a rich cultural environment, is deeply focused on building the idea of Macao-made gastronomy, and is highly appreciated by customers. The restaurant - enhancing the promotion of traditional food culture and supporting the development of Macao as UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy - won a prize awarded by Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, Association Mondiale de la Gastronomie in 1999.

The recipients of the Medal of Merit - Xu Aoao, Kuok Cheong U, Maria Paula de Matos Pimenta Simões and Mak Seng Hin - will receive the Medal of Merit - Professions; Mok Chi Wai, Ip Sio Man and Wong Kin Chong will receive the Medal of Merit - Industry and Commerce; Choi Kun Sam, Sou Chio Fai, Santa Madalena School and Tang Siu Lan will receive the Medal of Merit - Education; Macao Daily News will receive the Medal of Merit - Culture; Lee Bun Sang Stephen, Macao Federation of Trade Unions, The Women’s General Association of Macau and Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau will receive the Medal of Merit - Philanthropy; while Iao Chon In, Li Yi, Sou Soi Lam, Hoi Long and Wong Sok I will receive the Medal of Merit - Sports.
