The Consumer Council of Macao SAR Government announced its annual assessment results of ‘Certified Shops’ in December, 2018. Of the 1300 shops evaluated some 1040 were awarded the 2019 ‘Certified Shop’ emblem. The 83 per cent of shops which passed the annual assessment represents a 10 percentage points increase compared to last year, with over 800 shops graded B or above and 13 graded ‘Class A Certified Shops’.

With the ‘Certified Shop’ mechanism - launched almost 20 years ago - the Consumer Council seeks to demonstrably improve both quality and quantity by co-operating with economic organisations and by providing in-person services to ‘Certified Shops’, as a result of which almost 100 new shops joined the mechanism in 2018 using these services.

In terms of quality, the Council continues to revise and improve its assessment standards for the enhancement of services and other quality parameters, with ‘Certified Shops’ and the ‘Code of Practice’ established for various industries. A total of 19 ‘Code of Practice’ parameters have been established for the better operation of various industries, with more to be developed aimed at building a trusted and harmonious relationship between consumers and businesses.
