Macau International Airport Launches Several Direct Flights

Macau International Airport (MIA) launched several direct flights in the past two months to Chiang Rai and Krabi in Thailand, Kunming in China, Cebu in the Philippines and Daegu in South Korea. In 2018, a new record of over 8.26 million passengers used Macau International Airport, with the number of flights exceeding 65 thousand, some 15 per cent and 12 per cent higher than the previous year.

AirAsia commenced flights between Macao and Chiang Rai in Thailand on 30th January 2019, offering four flights of approximately 3 hours 20 minutes every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. AirAsia also launched a new 3-hour 20-minute flight between Macao and Krabi in Thailand on 1st December 2018 providing services every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.   

In December 2018 China Eastern Airline commenced three weekly flights between Macao and Kunming, while Cebu Pacific Air now provides four weekly services to Cebu, and JEJU Air provides five weekly services to Daegu.

Throughout 2018 MIA expanded the network by adding 10 new routes. As well as the four new routes opened in December of last year, other new destinations include Phuket in Thailand, Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, Tuguegarao in the Philippines plus Sanya, Qingdao and Xian in China.

Some 27 airlines operate from MIA connecting Macao to 51 destinations, of which passenger traffic from Mainland China plus Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia account for 37 per cent and 41 per cent, respectively, of the total passenger volume of the airport.
