4th IFFAM International Competition Jury President Announced

The Organising Committee of the 4th International Film Festival & Awards.Macao (IFFAM) - to run from 5th to 10th December - held a press conference in Shanghai on 16th June leveraging the occasion of the 22nd Shanghai International Film Festival.

Under the auspices of Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director and President of the Organising Committee of the 4th IFFAM, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, the IFFAM Organising Committee inked collaboration agreements with the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) and the Shanghai Film Academy of Shanghai University.

The agreements included recommendations for new film talent, films and film investment projects, while encouraging students from related professions to participate in the IFFAM in Macao.

Peter Chan Ho-sun, Carina Lau join IFFAM

Renowned director, producer and screenwriter Peter Chan Ho-sun from Hong Kong has been appointed Competition Jury President for the 4th IFFAM. Chan has directed many blockbusters since the 1990’s, including Comrades: Almost a Love Story; Perhaps Love; The Warlords; American Dreams in China; and Dearest, among others. His works have won numerous film awards, including from the Hong Kong Film Awards, Golden Horse Awards and Huading Awards.

In 1998, Chan co-operated with DreamWorks SKG, co-founded by legendary American director Steven Spielberg, to make his first Hollywood film The Love Letter. The Eye, produced by Peter Chan, was also adapted into a Hollywood film, while Perhaps Love closed the Venice Film Festival in 2005.

In addition, popular Hong Kong movie star Carina Lau will serve as 4th IFFAM Talent Ambassador. Lau has received much international acclaim with Best Actress Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards, Golden Bauhinia Awards, Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival, Osaka Asian Film Festival, and Three Continents Festival in France. Her best known films are Days of Being Wild; Intimates; Curiosity Kills the Cat; Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame; Bends; In Your Dreams. In 2017, she was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the United States, which awards the Oscars.

The Festival Ambassadors are Kim Yong-Hwa of South Korea, the famous director, actor, producer and television host of Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, acclaimed film director and actor Karan Johar from India, and independent film director Wang Xiaoshuai from China.

Expanded competition section and awards

The 4th IFFAM is launching a ‘SHORTS’ competition for the first time, featuring a selection of ten short films by university students from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao.

Meanwhile, the 4th IFFAM has also expanded the number of prizes in the New Chinese Cinema category, which includes Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Best Actress.

The Macau Films & Television Productions and Culture Association (MFTPA) is also partnering world renowned TorinoFilmLab (TFL) this year via a Macao-TorinoFilmLab training initiative titled Script & Creative Production Workshop and Training Programme. Four selected teams will participate in the training programme in June and November.

Since its inception in 2016, the IFFAM Organising Committee has been committed to making the event a platform for cultural exchange between East and West, transcending borders and generations to win its place in the international film industry.

It simultaneously seeks to create opportunities for global exchange for Macao's cultural and creative industries, boost the development of Macao’s tourism industry, and raise the city’s international stature.

Cannes Film Festival Invites IFFAM to Join Fantastic 7

The world renowned Cannes Film Festival, of France, has invited the International Film Festival & Awards.Macao (IFFAM) and six other famous film festival organisers from around the world to co-operate in promoting The Fantastic 7, a new session added to the Festival this year. 

Representing IFFAM, local film project Wonderland - which received the Macao Spirit Award at IFFAM last year - participated in related activities during the Cannes Film Festival.
