The website for the Consumers Complaints Transfer Platform in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (the Platform) was inaugurated on 30th May in Zhuhai’s Hengqin New Area, during a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Forum on Consumer Consumption and Consumer Protection. Macao Consumer Council and Guangdong Consumer Council also inked a co-operation protocol on consumer protection to establish a mechanism for regular co-operation in the referral of cases, information exchange and staff training.

The President of the Executive Committee of the Macao Consumer Council, Wong Hon Neng, said that the new Complaints Transfer Platform is a major improvement for co-operation between consumer organisations in the Greater Bay Area, observing that consumers in 11 cities can resolve complaints and disputes across the Greater Bay Area via the one-stop solution Platform. He added that the Platform would standardise all referrals to related consumer organisations in 11 Greater Bay Area cities, increasing confidence in interactive consumption and encouraging the development and integration of consumption between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.

He also pointed out that with increased co-operation between consumer organisations within the Greater Bay Area, Macao Consumer Council and Guangdong Consumer Council can maximise the advantages of sharing resources across the Platform. By matching these with hardware support for cross-border arbitration in the Greater Bay Area, he said, the Councils can strive for the expeditious implementation of cross-border arbitration in the Greater Bay Area and extend such mechanism to various provinces and cities across China, construct a cross-border consumer dispute handling mechanism, and encourage the development of one another’s tourism and retail industries.

The Consumer Councils currently operate cross-border arbitration and conciliation services with Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Zhuhai Hengqin New Area and Hong Kong, and have signed co-operation agreements with 10 cities and districts in Guangdong Province.
