As part of its policy to increase convenience for residents and relieve pressure on the border crossings, the Macau SAR Government announced the Central Government’s new facilitation policies for Zhuhai-Macau Immigration clearance procedure last month. Effective midnight on 18th December, Hengqin Port in Zhuhai and Cotai Port in Macau (commonly known as the Macau Lotus Bridge) formally implemented a 24-hour Immigration service. This is the second all-weather 24-hour Immigration border with China, with Huanggang Port in Shenzhen the first.
The operating hours of Zhuhai’s other land crossings to Macau have also been extended: the opening and closing hours of Gongbei/Border Gate has been extended for one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening, from 6:00am to 1:00am the following day, while the Zhuhai Cross-border Industrial Zone is operational from midnight to 7:00am. All the aforementioned measures also took effect at midnight on 18th December.
The 24-hour Immigration checkpoint at Hengqin Port accommodates passengers and passenger vehicles, excluding trucks. Zhuhai-Macau Cross-border Industrial Zone, operating from midnight to 7:00am, meanwhile, will service workers, students and Macau residents, excluding self-drive cars and passenger vehicles.
The Public Security Police Force increased its strength to a total of 70 police at the three crossings, while the Zhuhai-Macau Cross-border Industrial Zone installed two more additional self-crossings and six staff channels. In addition, the Transport Bureau announced that bus route No. 19 will extend its hours from 5:45am to 1:15am, while No. 25 and N3 will serve Cotai, with the new overnight bus route N4 added.
