Chinese President Xi Jinping Visits on 15th Anniversary of Macau SAR

President of China Xi Jinping was in Macau on the 19th and 20th December 2014 to attend the Macau Special Administrative Region’s (MSAR) 15th Anniversary and the inauguration ceremony of the Chief Executive and his top officials. Macau organized a series of activities and celebrations to welcome the Chinese President and celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the MSAR.

During his visit, Xi Jinping announced the Central Government’s decision to gift Macau another pair of giant pandas in addition to commencing preparations enabling Macau to manage its own coastal waters.

On 19th December, Xi Jinping led the Central Government delegation to meet Chief Executive Chui Sai On, following which he convened with the incumbent officials of the MSAR and various strata of society. In the evening, he attended a welcome dinner and the 15th Anniversary of the establishment of the MSAR Gala hosted by the Macau Government.

On the morning of 20th December, President Xi participated in the fourth-term MSAR Government inauguration ceremony. This was followed by a meeting with the Macau SAR’s newly appointed executive, legislative and judicial officials. He then rounded off his trip in the afternoon before leaving Macau.

During the period, the Macau Government hosted a series of activities, which included, on 20th December, a solemn flag-raising ceremony at Golden Lotus Square at 8:00am, and the 15th Anniversary of the SAR Reception at Macau Tower.

Macau Sport Development Board hosted the ‘Celebrating 15th Anniversary of Macau SAR of Creative Arts Festival - Superstars Co-coagulation Concert’ in the Taipa Olympic Sports Centre Stadium at 2:00pm, at which a number of Hong Kong superstars performed. The celebrations were wrapped up by a spectacular fireworks display at 9:00pm organized by Macau Government Tourist Office.
