New Round of ‘Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme’ Applications Concluded

Some 86 qualified merchants received the Star Merchant Award for quality tourism services in 2014

Ninety one merchants wishing to participate in the Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme submitted their application forms during the designated period from 2nd to 31st March, 2015. Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) is organizing the accreditation scheme for the second consecutive year and once again it is targeting the catering industry.

Macau Government Tourist Office launched the Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme in 2014 with the purpose of defining service quality standards for the tourism industry by encouraging and supporting the industry to enhance service culture. In addition, the Scheme recognises tourism merchants and practitioners who provide outstanding services and implement excellent service management.

A major plank in the Administration's strategy to develop Macau as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, the Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme classifies all eligible licensed restaurants and food and beverage establishments in Macau according to four categories; namely 'Deluxe Restaurant', 'First Class Restaurant', 'Second Class Restaurant', and 'Food and Beverage Establishment'.

Evaluation is determined by 'Mystery Shopping Assessment' and 'Service Management System Audit', whilst the frontline service standard and management system will be assessed respectively.

Each participating merchant who successfully passes the assessment will receive Star Merchant Award accreditation, valid for 3 years, to be displayed on their premises; participating merchants securing the highest score in each category will be awarded the Service Star Award Trophy and a cash prize of MOP5,000 as a token of appreciation.

The Scheme speaks for an authoritative recognition of excellent tourism service quality in Macau. Having received this prestigious accreditation, industry participants are not only able to prove that their quality service positively affects customers but they are able to build brand confidence and stakeholder trust.

Last year, a total of 86 qualified catering businesses were given the 'Star Merchant Award'. For more details of Star Merchant Award 2014, please download
