Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macau Promote Multi-destination Tourism

Heads of tourism from three regions

Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macau tourism authorities held their annual meeting in March in Macau to decide upon their promotional objectives and co-operation projects for 2015. The three cities agreed to continue to employ 'Fragrant Hill of the Past – Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macau Today' as the overarching theme of their promotions, in addition to organising promotional activities in China and overseas, in order to promote multi-destination tourism to the region.

The meeting was joined by MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Zhongshan Tourism Bureau Director Wu Jiamin, and Zhuhai Culture Sports and Tourism Bureau Deputy Director Wang Linping, as well as other heads from the tourism entities of the three cities.

During the meeting, the MGTO Director summed up the work accomplished in 2014 per the objectives defined for that year. Following Ms. Senna Fernande's presentation, a small ceremony was held to confer the presidency of the Zhongshan-Zhuhai-Macau tourism co-operation framework on Zhuhai from Macau. Afterwards, the annual meeting for 2015 was held, under the presidency of Zhuhai Culture Sports and Tourism Bureau Deputy Director Wang Linping.

During the meeting the three cities agreed to continue organising joint promotions, with plans to go to Mainland China, Sichuan Province, as well as Southeast Asia markets, with the objective of encouraging more visitors from abroad, including overseas Chinese, to visit Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macau.

The three cities will continue to enhance the tourism promotional materials of each of the three cities, as well as employing videos, brochures and exhibition platforms with tourism information to enhance exposure of the region.

The three cities' tourism authorities signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Tourism Co-operation between Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macau in 2006, which created a framework to reinforce tourism co-operation in the region - known in the past as the Fragrant Hill region - and historical relations to Sun Yat-sen as the promotional theme for the Mainland China and overseas, to create a unique branding proposition. For the last nine years, the three destinations have undertaken joint tourism promotions on the Mainland (in Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Hefei and Nanjing) as well as in Taipei China, Japan, Korea, Canada, Singapore, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Portugal and Spain.

Zhongshan, Zhuhai and Macau share the same roots of profound culture and history. In the recent nine years, the three cities have aspired not only to sharing the same tourist markets and resources but jointly enhancing their regional image as a whole. Guided by this 'family' principle, the three destinations have co-hosted promotional events to expand their tourist markets as one regional destination.
