The Secretary for Administration and Justice of the Macau SAR Government, Chan Hoi Fan, went to Chengdu in late March to meet with an “expert group for the selection of giant pandas for conferment to Macau" to determine that the female Shu Rong (born in 2008) and the male Yalin (born in 2007) were the two pandas which will be sent to Macau.

With their 30-day quarantine now complete, the two pandas were transported by private plane from Chengdu to Macau, arriving in town on 30th April. It is expected that they will be presented to citizens and visitors earliest on 30th May. The two pandas will be renamed Kai Kai and Xin Xin after the original Macau pandas because these names are familiar to Macau people.

The director of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding from whence they came said that this combination from 20 pairs of giant pandas get along well, and currently weigh about 110 kg. each.
