‘Beautiful China, 2015 - Year of Silk Road Tourism’ Promoted in Macau

Macau SAR Government to collaborate with Mainland to enhance international influence of Silk Road and cultural tourism

The China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) held the 'Beautiful China, 2015 - Year of Silk Road Tourism' promotion in Macau on 9th April. The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macau SAR Government, Alexis Tam, said at the occasion that Macau is positioning itself as the last point on the Marine Silk Road, and that the government hopes to promote regional tourism development through complementary resources.

On that day, the Mainland tourism delegation headed by CNTA, including tourism officials from Liaoning, Henan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Gansu and 22 other provinces, autonomous regions and cities of more than 180 tourism enterprises, held a pre-sale event in Iao Hon Market Park.

During the evening, a tourism promotion event was held in Macau Tower, where the Mainland tourism delegation from Gansu, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Guangxi and Guizhou introduced the latest design of the Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed rail and Guizhou-Guangzhou high-speed rail, plus its tour routes and products to the Macau Tourism Industry.

Mainland China delegation leader, Wei Hongtao, said the Macau market attaches great importance to the development and promotion, and hopes to provide more updated Macau tourism products, and that tourism continues to deepen exchanges and co-operation between Macau and the Mainland. He said that CNTA will continue to support the development of Macau tourism and construction of Macau as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.

Alexis Tam said Macau is positioning itself as the last point of the Maritime Silk Road and 'One Belt, One Road' as the government hopes to link up by history, religion and other factors more closely with other regions to further expand co-operation with the Mainland, enhancing the international influence of the Silk Road and cultural tourism, promoting the development of regional tourism.

Wei Hongtao and Alexis Tam exchanged ideas about supporting the development of tourism in Macau, building the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure and promoting Macau and Mainland tourism. Wei Hongtao was also invited to examine the Macau Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT) where he delivered a speech. Following the Macau tour, the Mainland delegation continued its trip to Hong Kong on 10th April.
