Following the Zhuhai-Macau Co-operation Meeting 2015, held at the end of April, the Tourism and Cultural authorities from both sides signed a 'Tourism Cooperation Framework Agreement” and a 'Culture Co-operation Framework Agreement'. According to the agreements, both sides will work to enhance tourism promotion in different markets, co-operate on creating a favourable tourism image and business environment, in addition to boosting a complementary development strategy for Zhuhai and Macau's cultural industries, while developing new cultural markets, and encourage joint talent training.

The agreements were inked, respectively, between Macau Government Tourist Office Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and Cultural Affairs Bureau President Ung Vai Meng, who signed with Zhuhai Culture, Sport and Tourism Bureau Director Wang Lingping.

The Zhuhai-Macau meeting was presided over by Secretary for Economy and Finance Leong Vai Tac and Mayor of Zhuhai Jiang Ling. In addition, after the meeting the Zhuhai and Macau administrations announced that their closer co-operation is to extend to the inclusion of social services, in addition to the current network of specific industries and cross-boundary infrastructure building. This initiative follows the recent announcement of several other favourable opportunities to further integrate Macau into regional development, coming hard on the heels of the establishment of the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ), co-operative ventures on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai, and the national development initiatives of the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road ('Belt and Road'). Working groups in different areas of co-operation will meet on a regular basis to press ahead with ongoing development involving Zhuhai and Macau.

During the meeting, the Macau Government proposed more involvement in investment projects in the Guangdong-Macau Co-operation Industrial Park, especially those involving businesses in Hengqin. Moreover, Zhuhai Mayor Jiang Ling said the draft of a proposal to allow Macau-registered motor vehicles on Hengqin Island's roads would be ready soon.

The Zhuhai-Macau Co-operation Meeting was formed under the auspices of the Guangdong-Macau Co-operation Joint Conference in 2008. The two governments take turns to hold the conference in Zhuhai or in Macau each year to facilitate closer partnership and explore more co-operation opportunities.
