MGTO Promotional Activities in June

Macau streetscapes adorn trucks plying the streets of Osaka this month

Aspiring to be a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, Macau continues to attract visitors from all over the world. In order to build momentum for this positioning, Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) has initiated diverse promotional programmes for the whole year. In June, it will fly the flag in Japan, Malaysia, France, Portugal, Hong Kong, Taiwan China, Australia and New Zealand in addition to other countries and regions.

Japan

A series of promotions using Ad Trucks in the major urban areas of Osaka and Nagoya have already been rolled out. In Osaka, the second-largest city in Japan, a 4-ton Ad Truck features Macau on its side with partner travel agency H.I.S. on its tail, until mid-June.

Meanwhile, other promotions planned for this month include giant digital ad displays in the major port city conurbation of Osaka from 1st to 30th June, while digital signage will be erected in Tokyo station running until 27th July, and an FM radio-online promotion using the network of 19 FM radio stations nationwide will be broadcast until 17th July.

A live broadcast of FACE Travel Macau in a tie-up with FM stations is scheduled for every Monday at 2:00pm until 27th July. Also, five 'power bloggers of Ameba', the largest network of the country's bloggers, will visit Macau in June and July to blog their experiences in the lotus city.

Malaysia

In accordance with its strategy of using a mix of various media to most efficiently target different consumer groups, MGTO has signed up for a radio campaign - with One FM and Fly FM - under the banner of 'Let's Go Macau this Sunday!' which started on 18th May and will run until 5th June 2015. The key objective of the short, intensive campaign is to increase visitation to Macau by building awareness of the city and encouraging younger Chinese and English speakers to take a short break in the territory.

France

Chefs from the popular French cooking school L'Atelier des Chefs will share their knowledge about Macanese food in a total of 90 cooking classes starting from 17th June until October in eight French cities (Aix-en-Provence, Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Nantes, Paris, Strasbourg and Toulouse) through their school network. During the cooking classes, participants will experience Macau by learning how to cook a typical Macanese menu. In addition, L'Atelier des Chefs has produced a Macanese cooking book introducing five dishes in order to support the project and help further promote the city's gastronomy and culture.

Portugal

The Macau Tourism Promotion and Information Centre in Portugal (CPITMP) is actively promoting the territory in several events this month. During the Lisbon City Festival (1st to 30th June), for example, one of the special highlights will be the participation of the TurboJet winning performing group of the Chinese New Year Parade of Macau in the Lisbon Street Parades (12th June). Meanwhile, the 'Macau Train' - three carriages bearing Macau motifs - are running on the popular line between Lisbon and Cascais until October 2015, which carries thousands of commuters and tourists daily.

In addition, the 85th edition of the Lisbon Book Fair (28th May to 14th June), a grand open-air event in Lisbon's Eduardo VII Park, right in the city centre, guarantees high visibility for all participants. MGTO will do a direct radio broadcast from its booth on 5th June, from 9:00pm to 11:00pm, via the popular RFM radio programme. Autograph sessions at the booth with published authors who have featured Macau and China in their writings will add a very personal twist to the festivities throughout the duration of the Book Fair.

Hong Kong

The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) will participate in the 29th Hong Kong International Travel Expo (ITE) from 11th to 14th June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to promote the leisure and business tourism opportunities of Macau. MGTO - together with 31 Macau trade representatives from hotels, travel agents, ferry companies and event organizers - will participate in this high profile tourism event.

In addition, to tapping into the 'Silver Hairs' market, MGTO (HK) will mount a photo exhibition, luncheons, credit card co-operation and create a travel guide. The Office has also invited Evergreen artist Law Lan to 'front' the travel guide in order to further attract the attention of the target group and extend their stay in Macau

In order to attract more visitors from Hong Kong and to promote Macau tourism, MGTO will also host the 'Macau, Beyond Your Expectations' mini roadshow at the Metroplaza on 27th and 28th June to exhibit the unique sensations of Macau.

Taiwan

Also in June, MGTO is co-operating with BabyBoss City, a role-playing theme park located on the 7th floor of the Living Mall in Taipei, where it will present the 'Macau Artists Creative Academy'. Through this unique vehicle, various dimensions of Macau culture will be put on display, including Portuguese folk dancing and 'Painting Macau'. Through this learning experience, children can know more about Macau and broaden their horizons. In addition, BabyBoss will provide Macau tourism information and Macau family tourism product information packs in order to encourage Taiwanese families to make the short trip to Macau during the summer months.

Australia and New Zealand

A new landing page - www.visitmacau.com.au (to be launched in mid-June) - has been created by MGTO Australia and New Zealand as a platform to provide all the latest news and developments in Macau, to be linked to the prime MGTO website. The platform will also work as a marketing tool to keep both consumers and travel industry abreast of what's going on - co-operative wholesale travel offers, local promotions, and more - in Australia and New Zealand and of the events and promotions coming up in Macau. Bus advertising will be launched in Sydney to assist in promoting the platform.

MGTO Australia - in association with online portal Travel There Next, a consortium of highly credentialed travel writers, videographers, photographers, twitterers, bloggers and instagramers, each with impressive numbers of followers - has also invited leading bloggers from Australia and New Zealand to visit Macau to write about the city. Leading Aussie bloggers Winsor Dobbin, Aubrey Daquinag and Kerry Heaney plus Kiwi blogger Megan Singleton are now sharing their experiences in the city with their readers, following their visit to Macau earlier in May.

Other Markets

In addition, this month's promotional activities include the 'Zhuhai and Macau Tourism Promotion' in Chengdu and Chongqing in Zhongshan Province on 2nd and 3rd June; 'Hanatour International Travel Show' in Ilsan Goyang City in Korea from 5th to 7th June; 'Korea World Travel Fair' (www.kotfa.co.kr) in Seoul in Korea from 11th to 14th June; 'Dynamic Macau' in Taiyuan in Shanxi Province from 25th to 27th June; 'Beijing International Tourism Expo' (www.bitechina.com.cn) in Beijing from 26th to 28th June.
