The announcement of the 2014 Macau Green Hotel Award's results reveals that a total of 13 hotels have received commendations. The 4-star Hotel Beverly Plaza Macau won the Gold Award, while two budget hotels - Hong Thai Hotel and Five Footway Inn - received Merit Awards. This edition marks the first time a 4-star hotel has won the top award and is also noteworthy in that budget hotels have picked up awards. The award ceremony will be held this month, and applications for the 2015 Macau Green Hotel Award are being accepted in the third quarter of this year.
The 2014 Macau Green Hotel Award - organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau - commends the following 13 hotels for maintaining the standards demanded of a green world dedicated to the elimination of waste and pollution: The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel, MGM Macau and Hotel Beverly Plaza Macau were awarded the Gold Award; Galaxy Macau, Mandarin Oriental Macau, Hotel Guia, Waldo Hotel and Hotel Royal were awarded the Silver Award; Grandview Hotel, Pousada Marina Infante Hotel and Macau Fuhua Hotel were awarded the bronze medal; Hong Thai Hotel and Five Footway Inn received the Merit Award. All awards are valid for three years.
According to the Environmental Protection Bureau, the Macau Green Hotel Award has been held since 2007, with the Macau hotel industry accepting applications by more and more hotels of different sizes. In 2014, the awards attracted three budget hotels, with two of them gleaning awards. In addition, this is the first time a 4-star hotel has achieved the highest level of Gold award.
The 2015 Macau Green Hotel Award applications is accepting applications in the third quarter of this year. Some 32 hotels participated in the past (from the beginning to March 2015), accounting for 30 per cent of the total number of hotels in Macau. These 32 hotels have more than 17,300 rooms which represents about 60 per cent of the total number of hotel rooms in Macau.
