PRC Passport Holders’ Transit Stay Extended

Macau adjusts transit requirements for Mainland Chinese passport holders

To fit the strategy of 'One Belt, One Road' to attract more visitors using Macau International Airport as a transit point for their journeys, the Public Security Police Force (CPSP) announced that effective 1st July they would relax the restrictions on transit visitors travelling on Chinese passports. The transit stay period has thus been extended from 5 days to 7 days.

Under the new regulations, Chinese passport holders who first enter Macau are given 7 days 'transit stay'. If they enter via Macau International Airport to go abroad, they will be given 7 days transit stay when entering Macau again in 30 days. However, if they do not use Macau International Airport to go abroad, they may only enjoy 2 days transit stay within 30 days.

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis, Tam Chon Weng said that as the gaming industry is currently undergoing a deep adjustment, the MSAR has decided to extend the transit stay in a timely manner. It is expected that this initiative will help adjust the economy from an over-reliance on the gaming industry to tourism, particularly given Macau's unique appeal as a place where Chinese and Western culture has met for hundreds of years.
