Guangdong and Macau are to promote the preparatory work for a new channel project (Qingmao Border) with the Guangdong-Macau new channel working group holding its seventh working meeting recently in Macau to discuss next steps. The new Guangdong-Macau border access (Qingmao Border) project will adopt a new border inspection mode comprising 'full border check'. Both sides are now working on the project, including the reorganisation plan of Canal dos Patos and the construction of a pedestrians-only bridge linking the new border access and Zhuhai City railway station.

The meeting was chaired by the Guangdong team leader, Director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of Guangdong Province Liao Jingshan and Macau team leader, the director of Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau Li Canfeng.

After consultation, it was decided that there will be a new border mode for the Qingmao Border. For the co-operation of the new border hinterland, a fresh food wholesale market was unveiled last year with construction expected to be completed by the end of 2016. Following relocation, the main construction work on the inspection building can be started.

In addition, public housing, public service buildings and light rail stations have been started, with the government setting up a vehicle examination centre for the relocation of facilities.

The preliminary programme of pedestrian passage border, mating operation of the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Railway and reorganisation plan of Canal dos Patos are to be undertaken following public consultation. Guangdong and Macau attach great importance to this project and are steadily achieving their work goals.
