Four Telecommunications Companies Granted 4G Licence for 8 years

The telecommunications companies are contractually obligated to provide services this year

According to a dispatch by the MSAR's Chief Executive in the Official Gazette, a total of four 4G mobile network licences have been issued to four telecommunications enterprises for a period of eight years. They should provide services this year, while their contracts also require that the licensees must implement a service of 'notice first and buy later' to ensure that users understand all the details before providing the data service. In the event of network failure, the licensee is contractually bound to compensate consumers.

4G licences have been granted to CTM, China Telecom, SmarTone and Hutchison Telecom. China Telecom said that they will launch a 4G service in part of the area, setting a reasonable and preferential price policy. Hutchison Telecom said that they will launch a new monthly plan and add better, more diversified value-added services, while SmarTone said that after launching their 4G service they could enhance consumers' experience of mobile broadband.

As an international city of tourism and leisure, it is imperative for Macau to offer mobile WIFI service for inbound tourists, apart from local residents. In other words, the coverage and stability of 4G network will definitely become an important indicator to gauge if Macau could become a world-class tourist city.
