27th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest Opens

The 27th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest will light up the night skies over the sea area near Macau Tower

The spectacular 27th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest - organized by Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) and launched from the shorefront of Macau Tower - is sure to attract many thousands of spectators on 5th, 12th, 19th, 27th September and 1st October. Ten teams will compete in what has become one of Asia's major must-see events hailing from Malaysia; Portugal; Finland; Taiwan, China; Korea; Italy; France; Austria; Australia and Mainland China.

Red Flame Special Effects Sdn. Bhd. from Malaysia and Luso Pirotecnia Group from Portugal light the blue touchpaper for this pyrotechnic spectacular on 5th September. While Red Flame is participating for the first time in this competition, Luso Pirotecnia has previously won fourth place. Suomen Ilotulitus Oy - Finnish Fireworks Ltd. from Finland also appears in this contest for the first time to cross sparklers with Yung-feng Firecrackers & Fireworks Co., Ltd. from Taiwan, China who join the competition for the third time on 12th September.

On the night of 19th September the very experienced Daehan Fireworks Co. from Korea faces off against first-time participant Parente Fireworks from Italy. Meanwhile, World Tourism Day and Mid-Autumn Festival are both celebrated on 27th September. The two competitors on this occasion are first-time artEventia from France and FIREevent from Austria. On 1st October, Howard & Sons Pyrotechnics from Australia will perform first in the grand finale followed by Dancing Fireworks from Mainland China, who symbolically represent the country on the PRC's National Day.

The judging panel not only takes into account the “wow" factor of the fireworks spectacle but the participants' skill in choreographing their displays to both music and laser light projections thus enhancing the spectators' experience. Spectators can enjoy live broadcasts of the fireworks shows with background music on TDM - Radio Macau's Chinese Channel (FM 100.7) and TDM - Macau TV Channel every fireworks evening. At the same time, MGTO will once again hold the Macau International Fireworks Display Contest SMS Game in conjunction with local communications provider CTM. Also, let your hair down at the 5-day Fireworks Carnival with flowing food and drink, games, riddles and live bands or enter the Photo Contest, Student Drawing Contest and Trophy Design Contest.

There are dozens of excellent vantage points to view the proceedings - both from the precincts of Macau Tower and the Praia Grande shorefront or the opposite shore and hill on Taipa. Arrive early for the best spot!
