The Association of Macau Tourist Agents, Macau Travel Agency Association and the Travel Industry Council of Macau have formed an alliance, with a signing ceremony held on 21st July. The Alliance will tie in with the 'One Belt, One Road' initiative to lead the industry to seek international development opportunities and develop diversified tourism products and markets. The Association is designed to strengthen the communication of the tourism industry and embraces tourism, catering, and the hotel industry among other priorities. It hopes to achieve the efficient allocation of resources in addition to further marketing integration to speed up economic integration and the process of economic diversification.

Macau Government Tourist Office Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said that in the next few years Macau will establish various entertainment facilities and urban infrastructure such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, which when completed will herald a new era for Macau tourism. In facing these challenges and opportunities, she remarked that it was important to aid the sustainable development of the Macau tourism industry with social and industry energy as the territory heads toward its goal of being a centre of world tourism and leisure. Stakeholders should also grasp the 'One Belt, One Road' strategy to promote multi-destination itineraries, she said, helping Macau to develop overseas markets and attracting international visitors, enhancing the tourism brand.

David Chow, President of the Alliance of Macau Tourism Industry, said that the Macau tourism industry has been dominated by the government. Facing the demanding and changing marketing situation, it needs to change the policies and regulatory mechanisms, as well, in order to create more opportunities for industry to participate in policy formulation, he said. It is hoped that through the co-operation of the government and citizens the industry can achieve higher results through self-discipline not only to improve the tourism industry regulatory regime but to upgrade the industry to enable visitors to enjoy superior services.
