In order to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Historic Centre of Macao as a World Heritage site, promote master carpenter Lu Ban's reflective and innovative spirit, display local traditional carpentry techniques, and revitalise and make use of important buildings of cultural value, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has joined hands with Macau Carpentry Trade Union to design the Woodcraft Works of Master Lu Ban Exhibition Room, located at No. 39-41, Rua de Camilo Pessanha, at the headquarters of the above mentioned Association.

The exhibition room - which comprises an area of 172 square metres - was opened on the occasion of the Luban Festival (28th July). On display in the exhibition room are a Luban lock and over 80 traditional wooden tools, including saws, planes, drills and ink markers, among others; as well as information boards with Lu Ban's story and inventions, videos showing how carpentry tools are used, components of buildings constructed according to the mortise-and-tenon method, and also tools available for the public to handle. Through a series of exhibitions and multimedia facilities, traditional techniques and wisdom are introduced, heightening awareness of carpentry techniques and traditional industries.

The Woodcraft World of Master Lu Ban Exhibition Room is free to the public, with opening time 10:00am to 6:00pm (closed on Wednesdays, open on public holidays).
