2015 Macau Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon to feature World Heritage Elements

Organized by the Macau Sport Development Board and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, and title-sponsored by Galaxy Entertainment Group, the '2015 Macau Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon' will be held on 6th December. Since this year also marks the 10th Anniversary of the inscription of 'The Historic Centre of Macao' on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the marathon course will pass by A-ma Temple and also the University of Macau Hengqin Campus in order to enable athletes to experience Macau's unique combination of tourism, culture and sports.

In order to allow more runners to participate in this annual sporting event, the quota for this year's event has been increased to 1,200 for the Full Marathon, 2,600 for the Half Marathon and 4,200 for the Mini-Marathon. Total prize money for the tournament is MOP1,496,000. Macau champions can receive an additional purse of MOP30,000 and MOP10,000 if they create a new record for the marathon or half marathon. On the evening of 5th December, a buffet 'Pasta Party' will be held for up to 130 participating athletes.

In addition, this year's event has added several World Heritage and tourism elements. Athletes will be given souvenirs of 'The Historic Centre of Macao' and will also be invited to attend the Parade through Macao, Latin City. They can even participate in a mobile phone game, upload their selfies and impressions in the Parade and join the lucky draw, with prizes of over MOP40,000 up for grabs. Prizes, including superior hotel suite accommodation with buffet breakfast, massage treatments and movie tickets await!

Macau Sport Development Board to Run Grand Prix

MSAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On has announced that the second half of this year will see the restructuring of the Macau Grand Prix Committee, the responsibility for which will fall under the auspices of the Macau Sport Development Board.

The Vice-President of Macau Sport Development Board, Lao Cho Un, said the absorption of the department's work would not cause a problem, with information about individual responsibilities of members of the Grand Prix Committee to be announced at a later time.

The Macau Grand Prix Committee currently reports to the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture. It is responsible for the co-ordination and preparatory work of the annual Macau Grand Prix.
