Scorsese’s New Movie ‘Silence’ Showcases 17th Century Macau

Martin Scorsese announces his latest movie ‘Silence’ will portray 17th Century Macau

Legendary film director Martin Scorsese's latest movie 'Silence' - adapted from Japanese writer Shūsaku Endō's novel of the same name - recounts the story of a young Catholic priest sent to Japan in search of a Portuguese priest who had been missing for 10 years. 'Silence' revolves around the religious persecution endemic in the era plus human suffering and other sensitive subjects. Actor Andrew Garfield plays the young priest, while Liam Neeson portrays the missing Portuguese.

Some scenes depicting 17th Century Macau were, in fact, shot in a replica facility built in a studio in Taiwan. The movie is slated to premiere in 2016.
