Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam attended the plenary meeting of the Legislative Assembly on 3^rd and 4^th December where he expanded upon the social and cultural dimensions of the 2016 fiscal year policy. The 2016 policy guidelines included some new tourism projects to further develop the city's leisure tourism, including the transformation of the Tourism Activities Centre (CAT) into a Grand Prix themed museum, studying the feasibility of using leisure boat trips, and developing the Taipa Houses-Museum and Nam Van Lake promenade into a leisure zone.

According to the 2016 fiscal year policy, the wide-ranging upgrade of the Grand Prix Museum will be completed in 2018. Secretary Tam said that once the whole Tourism Activities Centre has been converted into the revamped Grand Prix Museum, he believes it will attract visitors to spend much more time looking at the display of historic racing cars and wax models of renowned racing drivers like Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton, whose careers were catapulted into the big time by the Macau Grand Prix. Interactive racing simulators, videos tracing the Grand Prix history and a creative product sales area will all be added to the mix.

In addition, new tourism products will be planned, including the study of leisure boat trips in the coastal waters, the redevelopment of the palafite in Coloane and the old junk shipyards of Lai Chi Vun, in order to develop a cultural project related to the construction of fishing boats. Together with other related government departments, the creation of leisure zones at Taipa Houses-Museum and on Nam Van Lake promenade complete with esplanades and creative facilities will be studied, duly combined with tourism elements. In addition, the development of cinema culture will be promoted, in order to showcase Macao 's unique cultural and tourism characteristics and ambience.

Also for tourism area, it was announced that the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan, slated to be completed by 2017, calls for a new office building for Macao Government Tourism Office, which will continue to enhance the promotion of domestic tourism whilst supporting the development of regional tourism products.
