Macao Establishing Tourist Police Force

Tourist Police will provide assorted services in tourist areas in addition to the prevention of crime

The MSAR Government plans to establish a 30-member unit called the Tourist Police this year. The team will patrol the Ruins of St. Paul's, and from Dom Pedro V Theatre to A-Ma Temple and Golden Lotus Square, with the force to be expanded by more police officers in 2017.

The chief of the Public Security Police Force (CPSP), Leong Man Cheong, said police with good language abilities will be selected as team members. Their primary duty will be to prevent crime in tourist areas, to direct the flow of pedestrians during peak holiday seasons, respond to special events, and provide visitors with help and information.

The CPSP has established a special patrol team in August 2014. In April 2015, 20 police officers were specially assigned to patrol the Ruins of St. Paul's and Senado Square.
