LRT Depot Construction Restarts this Year

11 stations on the Taipa LRT line slated for completion this year

In his Policy Address press conference in November MSAR Chief Executive Chui Sai On announced the Macao Light Rapid Transit (Macao LRT) situation, in which the government had reached an agreement with the rail contractor to terminate the contract for the construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) depot in Taipa. After resolving the depot superstructure works, the government will re-open the tender for construction, and expects to restart the project this year. A conservative estimate means that the fastest growing segments in Taipa are expected to open to the public in 2019 or 2020.

In addition, it was mentioned in the Policy Address that the construction of 11 stations on the Taipa line will be completed this year, gradually releasing road space for public use. Moreover, the transport hub at Estrada Governador Albano de Oliveira and the design modifying the southern section of the LRT project on the Macao Peninsula are expected to be completed this year as well.

In addition, the government has suggested building a bridge rather than an underwater tunnel for the city's fourth cross-sea passageway connecting the Peninsula to the Islands.
