Macao in Top 20 of Annual Report on Development of World Tourism Cities

Macao ranks 10th in the Tourism Prosperity Index

The World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF) recently released its Annual Report on Development of World Tourism Cities (2015). Macao, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing and other cities figured among the top 20 of the 103 tourist cities in the world in terms of Tourism Prosperity Index and Tourism Development Potential Index, with Macao ranking 10th in the Tourism Prosperity Index.

The report notes that the former Top 20 cities in the Tourism Prosperity Index, Asia Pacific region accounted for 55 per cent of the total, with Europe 25 per cent, the US 15 per cent, and the Middle East and Africa 5 per cent. In addition, the report reflects that Chinese tourism cities cited as 'attractive' and 'satisfactory' lagged Europe and the US.

The Report on Development of World Tourism Cities (2015) launched by WTCF is an annual research report on world tourism urban development. The report contains six comprehensive index criteria; namely, Tourism Prosperity Index, Tourism Potential Index, Tourism Appeal Index, Tourism Supportive Index, Economic Contribution of Tourism Index, and Tourism Satisfaction Index.

Beijing initiated the establishment of the World Tourism Cities Federation in September 2012, joining hands with Berlin, Los Angeles, Barcelona and many other world famous tourist cities and tourism-related organizations to form a voluntary non-profit, international, non-governmental organization. Of the existing 151 members, 100 are city members, while institutional members number 51. Macao has been a city-member of WTCF since its establishment.
