The Committee for the Development of the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure of the MSAR Government, which invited residents to send their comments on 'Macao SAR's Five-Year Development Plan (2016 to 2020)' until 16th February, has received some 564 comments and suggestions. The Policy Research Office is now analysing these opinions and will submit a report to the Committee for the Development of the World Centre for Tourism and Leisure.

The government's three-month public consultation - in which several local associations, experts and residents shared their views on the objectives of the Five-Year Development Plan - attracted opinions from different sectors on several topics, including socio-economic development, urban planning, transport and infrastructure, housing, education, healthcare, and development of local talent as well as various aspects of the plan's targets, evaluation index, evaluation methods and other considerations.

The plan outlines seven aspirations for the next five years; namely, maintaining economic vitality, developing the structure of local industry, optimising infrastructure in pursuit of creating an international tourism city, enhancing local people's quality of life, improving the quality of education, raising awareness of environmental protection, strengthening the effectiveness of governance and boosting the rule of law, covering 22 sub-goals and construction of key projects in the next five years.

In this opinion collecting exercise, the public is most concerned about general comments, enhancing local people's quality of life, construction of key projects, maintaining economic vitality, improving the quality of education, and optimizing infrastructure in pursuit of creating an international tourism cityamong other considerations.

To allow the public a better understanding of the contents of the plan, the Committee has established a dedicated website, while the Policy Research Office has set up a workstation to collect views on policy research in addition to producing several videos and inviting experts and scholars to comment on planning content.
