The Script Road - Macau Literary Festival returns for its 5th edition from 5th to 19th March, based in the Old Court Building, and brings together more than 40 renowned writers, filmmakers, actors, visual artists and musicians.

For the first time, the Festival will pay tribute to two writers from the past. On the 400th anniversary of his death, Tang Xianzu is remembered as one of the first Chinese authors to have interacted with foreigners in Macao, a city he visited in 1591. Tang, a famous playwright from the Ming Dynasty and author of 'The Peony Pavilion', wrote a number of poems about Macao, immortalizing the city in his works. This year, the Foshan Cantonese Opera Troupe performs 'Peony My Beauty' - an adaptation of 'The Peony Pavilion' - at 8:00pm on 6th March in the UNESCO-listed Dom Pedro V Theatre.

Portuguese poet Camilo Pessanha is also attracting the Festival's attention some 90 years after his death. The author of 'Clepsidra', who lived and died in Macao, left a valuable legacy still very much studied today. The Script Road is also welcoming some of the most renowned scholars specializing in Pessanha's works to join the programme this year; notably, Paulo Franchetti, Daniel Pires and Pedro Barreiros.

Local and Macao-based writers are a relevant part of The Script Road programme, among whom number local writers Mu Xinxin and Carlos Morais José; renowned poets Un Sio San and Carlos André; and local filmmakers Tracy Choi, Emily Chan and Cheong Kin Man, who will screen one film each. Local artist Alexandre Marreiros will showcase some of his works, while Eric Fok, known for depicting the old and the new Macao in his map-like works, will present a solo exhibition.
