MGTO Promotional Activities in April

MJT’s third consecutive Parents’ Day targets 200 participants

This month, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is joining a series of promotional activities in Korea, Malaysia and Portugal (in order of date).

Korea

MGTO will be organizing an 'Experience Macao.Korea' Mega Tourism promotional campaign in Seoul, Korea from 17th to 20th April. The promotion series will include a grand opening ceremony, Macao Food Promotion inauguration and dinner, travel mart and interview session, among other activities. The series of activities for local travel trade, consumers and media are being prepared in order to promote Macao as a preferred tourist destination. In addition, from 20th to 22nd April, MGTO officials will travel to Busan to host a travel mart and dinners for the travel trade.

The opening ceremony of the 'Experience Macao.Korea' Mega Tourism promotional campaign will be held on 18th April in COEX MALL Central Plaza in Seoul. The venue will be filled with Macao landmarks for a week, offering five different themed zones for passers-by to experience a virtual reality trip to Macao in the mall.

Renowned Macanese cuisine will serve as another highlight. MGTO and three Macao chefs will bring Macanese cuisine to the JW Marriot Dongdaemun Square Seoul. From 18th April onwards, the hotel buffet restaurant and bar will offer a one-month Macanese cuisine promotion.

In addition to large-scale promotional activities, MGTO will host travel marts and dinners for the local travel trade in Seoul and Busan on 19th and 21st April, respectively, which will offer multiple business opportunities for Macao and the Korean travel trade to meet and discuss co-operation opportunities.

In addition, from March to May a Korean travel agency is co-operating with six different tourist destinations: Macao, Laos, Japan, Taiwan region, the Czech Republic and Sydney for a joint promotion. Seoul subway line no. 7 will be decorated with landmarks of the above destinations, enabling passengers to indulge in the local atmosphere. For the Macao section, passengers will be able to 'experience' the Ruins of St. Paul's, Macao's romantic nightscape and 'walk' on the city's famous Portuguese cobblestones.

Korea is currently Macao's top international visitor source market. Last year, Korea's visitor arrivals surpassed 554,000, making it the fourth largest visitor source market after Greater China (Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan region).

Malaysia

The MGTO Malaysia office is co-operating with and supporting MJT World Vacations Sdn Bhd to promote their Parents' Day event in Macao from 6th to 9th June. MJT is working closely with official radio station AiFM to conduct a call-in campaign from 21st March to 3rd April in which callers will have the opportunity of winning a 4D3N Trip to Macao with one partner by answering questions related to the territory. This campaign is also running in social media and print advertisements, promoting the Parents' Day package.

In addition, Malindo Air (OD) is a fast growing hybrid carrier that has operated direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong since February 2016. MGTO Malaysia office is collaborating with Malindo Air through two campaigns: Malindo Air offers special return all-in air fare from as low as RM450 including 30kg baggage allowance and on-board meal for fixed group departures of 25 seats for each date to appointed agents. The promotion period runs from April to June and targets the travel period spanning April and September 2016; Passengers who book air tickets via Malindo Air from April to June 2016 online, and travel between April to September, are entitled to redeem a Macao Pass.

MGTO is organizing a 4D3N FAM trip to Macao by inviting Muslim Travel agents from Kuala Lumpur. The key objective of which is to introduce them to and allow them to inspect all the Muslim friendly places in Macao, including the sole mosque. After the trip, the agents are expected to include Macao in their existing packages or to create a new itinerary and programme. This trip will also facilitate the inspection of hotels of different category, and the exploration of family oriented activities in Macao as Muslim traditionally travel in family groups.

MGTO has engaged popular radio DJ Jason Phang as the ambassador, which starts with a filming trip (19th to 22nd April) to Macao to showcase the different concept and idea of travelling to Macao, such as Heritage Macao, Fun Macao, Eat Macao and Shop Macao. The video will then be posted to YouTube and Facebook platform of Jalan-Jalan Travel Magazine and Macao Tourism Malaysia.

Host Jason Phang is a famous Chinese radio station DJ who has acted in numerous local films and products promotions. Ambassador Jason is also a frequent traveller and writes a column in Jalan-Jalan Magazine. After the trip, he will write about his experience travelling in Macao. In fact, Jalan-Jalan Magazine will feature Destination Macao as their front cover story on April 2016 issue.

Smart Holidays and Eden Tours & Travel Sdn Bhd have been aggressively selling and promoting Macao and MGTO will continue to support them in promoting and selling Macao, as well as to motivating the agents to be more aggressive in selling Macao. The agents will be promoting the packages through print advertisements and social media.

Portugal

MACAO TOURISM - through its representative office in Portugal (CPITMP) - will participate in the 14th edition of the Mundo Abreu (Abreu World) Travel Fair, which is one of the major tourism fairs in Portugal, and takes place on 9th and 10th April. The Macao stand at Travel Fair Mundo Abreu comprises two main modules: one in the shape of a Western-style building and the other one in the form of a Chinese pavilion, evoking Macao's mixed East-West heritage. There will be a 'Macao Selfies' area, visitors can take 'selfies' as if they were in Macao, choosing for this purpose from six different scenic background views of Macao, which includes some of the most famous tourist sites, such as the Ruins of St. Paul's, the A-Ma Temple or the Senado Square, among others. These photos are then published, with the consent of the users, in a special photo album in the Macao Tourism Facebook page in Portugal. The participants can also receive these 'selfie' images through their personal e-mail or publish them on their own Facebook page thus helping promote Macao´s destination appeal not only at the Fair but also actively via social media.

Furthermore, representatives of CPITMP will be touring Portugal participating in two B2B roadshows in ten cities in order to promote Macao and its new attractions.
