Public Consultation on Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan to be Launched end of May

Following the consultation period, the research team will propose a development plan for the Macao tourism industry for the short, medium and long term

In order to build Macao into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is now preparing the Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan, the draft and public consultation of which will be launched at the end of May. MGTO will establish a dedicated website for the dissemination of information and the collection of public opinion.

The Macao Tourism Industry Development Master Plan has now entered into its second stage of preparatory planning ahead of public consultation. Following this consultation, the research team will produce its report, including identifying Macao's tourism development objectives and strategies. The report will include a comprehensive development plan for the Macao tourism industry for the short, medium and long term, remodelling and utilization of tourism resources, and attractions management planning programmes in addition to diversification of tourism product development plan, as well as a strategy to promote the tourist market's diversified development.

A number of recommendations will also be included in the report; namely, on the future development of tourism image/city brand positioning, tourism information and media policy, tourism quality and service system planning, tourism industry and city development plan, tourism development co-operation system plan, as well as international and regional co-operation on tourism. It will also address the strategy for the application of innovative technology in tourism, a simulation of scenario analysis, and summarize the bottom line of the consulting projects.

The third stage of final planning will commence in September for completion in January next year. The main body of the work will revolve around fine-tuning and determining the final plan, taking into account the consensus opinions of the first and second stages for a final battery of workable solutions and appropriate policy measures. Finally, recommendations on follow-up research and planning will be outlined.
