Effective this year, the Macau Grand Prix has become the responsibility of the Sports Bureau. Because of the extensive work involved and high degree of co-operation required between the needs of various government departments, the work must be actively involved in and supported by the MSAR Government and the community.

The Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee was reorganized this year under the leadership of MSAR Government Secretary for Social and Cultural Affairs Alexis Tam as Chairman of the Committee. The President of the Sports Bureau will serve as co-ordinator, while the Vice-President will act as Assistant Coordinator. The Head of the newly formed Macau Grand Prix Major Sports Events Department is to be the Secretary-General.

Alexis Tam attended the Macau Grand Prix Organizing Committee meeting in the new Grand Prix Building in ZAPE district. The Secretary said that the 62nd Macau Grand Prix was successful last year with different departments co-operating and looks forward to the event being even more successful this year under the new organizing management. Meeting members discussed a number of suggestions during the meeting.

The committee has some sub-committees to respond to various tasks, with a new brand development team bringing in artists to design Grand Prix-related products to be sold overseas in a bid to extend the reach of the annual racing event. The central task is to develop the Macau Grand Prix as a sports-culture-tourism initiative which attracts more fans from around the world.
