The MSAR Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau recently released data on Macao hotels under construction in the last quarter of last year revealing that 16 hotels are under construction, with 34 others in the construction project phase. The total number of projects will provide 19,600 guestrooms and 13,000 parking spaces for cars and motorcycles. The total surface areas of guestrooms, the number of guest rooms and number of parking spaces had decreased compared to the third quarter of last year, and also decreased 30 per cent compared to 2014.

The majority of the 16 hotels already under construction are located on the Macao Peninsula - nine with 588 guestrooms - followed by Taipa, with one hotel of 373 guestrooms currently under construction. On Cotai, five properties providing 9,541 guestrooms are being built, while one hotel with 236 guestrooms is currently under construction in Coloane.

As for future developments, some 34 more properties will provide about 8,882 guestrooms, 28 of which will be located on the Macau Peninsula offering 3,407 guestrooms. Taipa will have one hotel of 126 guestrooms, Cotai will have three hotels with 4,881 guestrooms, while Coloane will have two hotels with 468 guestrooms.
