International Dragon Boat Races Richer this Year

162 teams will compete in the Dragon Boat Races

The 2016 Macao International Dragon Boat Races - hosted by the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government and the International Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China - will be competed by 162 teams on the 4th, 5th and 9th June at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre. During this period, the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the Sports Bureau, the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Institute for Tourism Studies will jointly launch a series of activities on the shores of Nam Van Lake, combining sporting, cultural and tourism elements (please see Anim'Arte NAM VAN story on this issue).

The Dragon Boat Races feature 10 competitions; namely, Macao Small Dragon Boat Race (Open Category, Women's Category), Macao Public Entities Small Dragon Boat Race, Macao University Students Small Dragon Boat Race (Open Category), Macao Civil Servants Invitation Small Dragon Boat Race, Macao Standard Dragon Boat Race (Open Category, Women's Category), Macao University Students Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race (Open Category) and Macao International Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race (Open Category, Women's Category).

To add to the atmosphere, this year's Dragon Boat Race festivities will again feature foreign teams from around the world to participate in the competitions, as well as local arts group performances and a parade of carnival-like activities, underscoring Macao's emerging position as a sports city and World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.
