17 Hotels Honoured by ‘Macao Green Hotel Award’

More hotels achieved Gold Award and a larger number of budget hotels awarded

The evaluation of 'Macao Green Hotel Award 2015' has already been completed, with 17 hotels awarded the prestigious recognition following rigorous examination. This edition resulted in a greater number of hotels (five in total) achieving the Gold Award and a larger number of budget hotels (four in total) awarded, demonstrating that the hospitality industry strongly endorses the 'Macao Green Hotel Award' programme and assigns more importance to the integration of environmentally friendly elements in operations management.

The 'Macao Green Hotel Award 2015' honoured 17 hotels, of which the Gold Award was picked up by the Sands Macao Hotel, Crown Towers, Hard Rock Hotel, Grand Hyatt Macau Hotel and Hotel Okura. The Silver Award went to Galaxy Hotel, Hotel Guia, the Riviera Hotel, Hotel Royal, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Grand Emperor Hotel and the Grand Lisboa Hotel. L'Arc Hotel Macau picked up the Bronze Award. The newly introduced 'Green Award Pension' was awarded to Hotel Sun Sun, East Asia Hotel, the Old Tai Sam Un Hotel and Old London Hotel. All the above awards are valid for three years.

Another new award titled 'Green Loyalty Award' was given to the Metropole Hotel, the Emperor Hotel, the Hotel Beverly Plaza, Riviera Hotel, Holiday Inn Macau, Grand Coloane Resort and Pousada de Mong-Ha in recognition of the support of these hotels over time since participating in the first edition of 'Macao Green Hotel Award'.

Some 21 hotels evaluated in the 'Macao Green Hotel Award 2013-2014' managed to maintain the validity of their prize, including: the Metropole Hotel, Hotel Grand Lapa, Emperor Hotel, Banyan Tree, Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16, Holiday Inn Macao Cotai Central Conrad Macao Cotai Central, Grand Coloane Resort, Holiday Inn Macau, the Hotel Grand Sheraton Macao Cotai Central, Hotel Lan Kwai Fong Macau, Pousada de Mong-Ha, The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel, Fu Hua Guang Dong Hotel, Pousada Marina Infante, MGM Macau, Waldo Hotel, Grandview Hotel, Hotel Beverly Plaza, 5 Footway Inn and Hong Thai Hotel.

As at March 2016, some 38 hotels had participated in and been awarded in all editions of 'Macao Green Hotel Award', corresponding to about 35 per cent of all Macao hotels; these hotels provided more than 19,000 rooms - equivalent to about 60 per cent of all the hotel rooms in Macao.

From the third quarter of this year, the organizers will receive applications for 'Macao Green Hotel Award 2016', and sincerely encourage the active participation of qualified members of the Macao hotel sector.
