Moscow-Macao Charter Flights Inaugurated

Macau International Airport welcomes several new airlines

Macau International Airport (MIA) will continue to take advantage of the air freedom protocol to develop more regular and charter air services to further diversify routes. New airlines joining the Macao aviation network include Lion Air Indonesia, Vietjet Air Vietnam, and Royal Flight, in addition to the re-launched Jetstar Pacific air service to MIA. New destination routes include Nha Trang in Vietnam, Paula in Indonesia and Moscow in Russia.

Royal Flight commenced flights between Macao and Moscow from the middle of May, offering a twice-weekly charter service between the two cities with one-way flight time taking ten hours. The airline plans to launch a thrice-weekly service starting 3rd July and to gradually convert to scheduled service when the route matures. Royal Flight - a charter airline since 1993 based in Abakan, Russia - chose Macao as its first destination in the Greater China region, and operates charter services between Russian cities, and holiday destinations such as Egypt, Turkey, India, United Arab Emirates, Spain, Italy, Thailand and Morocco.

In addition, from January to April 2016, the local airport recorded a volume of over two million passengers, with legacy carriers transporting 23 per cent more people compared to the same period last year, and occupying 71 per cent of the whole passenger market of MIA.

Southeast and Northeast Asia continue to perform well, occupying 43 per cent of the whole passenger market; Mainland China accounts for 31 per cent, while the Taiwan region market accounts for 26 per cent.
