Unveiling the world's best rated destinations in its 2016 Travellers' Choice Awards, TripAdvisor has awarded 463 tourist destinations in 27 countries and regions. London has been named the best rated destination in the world, while Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai made it into the top 25 best rated Asian destinations. Macao and Chengdu gained in popularity to jump into the top ten best rated destinations in China.

Compared with 2015 and 2016 Top Ten Best Rated Destinations, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai continue to dominate the top three spots, while Macao and Chengdu have attracted global travellers' attention as evidenced by both the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings in the last annual award, with Macao ranking fourth on the list and Chengdu eighth.

Award winners were determined by using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations worldwide, gathered over a 12-month period, as well as traveller booking interest on TripAdvisor.
