Taiwan-based airline TransAsia Airways, which has operated its Taiwan region route over 20 years in Macao, has announced that it will halt its flights to the city from 30^th October, affecting its Macao to Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung services. According to the statement from TransAsia Airways, the decision to suspend the Macao-Taiwan region routes was made after 'evaluating the operating benefits'. The announcement states that the airline's routes to Okinawa, Japan and Guiyang, China will also be halted from the end of October.

The exit of TransAsia Airways follows that of V Air (TransAsia Airways Corp's wholly-owned budget carrier), which suspended its flights between Macao and the Taiwan region after just three months of operating the route. As of now, Macao has three carriers providing Macao-Taiwan region flights; namely, local flag carrier Air Macau, Taiwanese-based Eva Air, and Taiwanese region budget airline Tigerair.
