The Wushu Masters Challenge – organised by the Sports Bureau of Macao and Wushu General Association of Macao, and co-organised by Macao Government Tourism Office, the Cultural Affairs Bureau and Fund of Cultural Industries – will be held from 11th to 14th August. Wushu activities ranging from traditional wushu performances, demonstrations and teaching to Dragon and Lion dance demonstrations, wushu forum, Chinese and Western Wushu Masters Extravaganza and Taolu competition will be featured. Event highlights include a Chinese and Western Masters Sanda Championship, Dragon and Lion Dance Championship, Wushu Parade featuring wushu characters, Dragon and Lion dance and Chinese mythological creatures, as well as Grand Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Wushu enjoys a long history in Macao, noted the president of the Sports Bureau Pun Weng Kun, pointing out that in addition to classic 'Wu Chan' competitions, many others continue to take place in Macao, helping to consolidate the Wushu Masters Challenge as part of the territory's paramount sporting events.

The chairman of the Wushu General Association of Macao (WGAM), Chan Weng Kit, said that with the full support of the Macao SAR Government, wushu is blossoming in Macao and becoming a favourite sport for many locals. In addition, Macao wushu athletes have won a number of championships in recent years, becoming, in the process, a key part of the discipline's global development, and he believes that the Wushu Masters Challenge will become a new reference event for wushu.

The Wushu Masters Challenge will be staged in Tap Seac Square, Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion, Senado Square, Friendship Square and Iao Hon Market Park. All activities are free admission.
