Macao Celebrates Annual World Tourism Day

The exciting, fun-filled annual Tray Race

Themed 'Tourism for all - Promoting Universal Accessibility', World Tourism Day 2016 will be celebrated worldwide, with Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) organising an array of local activities.

MGTO officials at Macao Ferry Terminal will present welcome souvenirs to random lucky tourists during the morning of this special day, while around 200 frontline staff from the F&B and hotel industry will participate in the afternoon's traditional Tray Race. Starting from the Ruins of St. Paul's, competitors will run through streets and lanes of part of the Historic Centre of Macao to reach the finishing point in Senado Square. In the evening, local travel trade partners and the press will be invited by MGTO to attend the World Tourism Day Dinner Banquet.

The World Tourism Organization designates 27th September as World Tourism Day each year, with celebrations held annually since 1980. The purpose of World Tourism Day is to promote awareness among the international community of the significance of tourism, especially regarding its social, cultural, political and economic values. Every year, over 100 countries/regions celebrate World Tourism Day around the world on the same day.
