28th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest Lights Up September

The ten participating teams of this year’s fireworks display will be synchronized to light and sound effects

The 28th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest will light up the night skies above the Macau Tower seafront on 3rd, 10th, 15th, 24th September and 1st October featuring intriguing themes for each evening titled 'Pyro Fantasia', 'Tribute to Bond', 'Mid-Autumn Harmony', 'Stars from afar' and 'Celebration in the Sky'.

A total of ten teams will compete, coming from (in order of appearance) Thailand, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Japan, Korea, Italy, Canada, Romania and China. The Japanese and Korean teams will stage their fireworks shows on 15th September, the Mid-Autumn Festival, whilst the teams from Romania and China will battle it out for the pyrotechnic honours on 1st October, the PRC's National Day.

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) requests again this year that the teams choreograph their fireworks displays to both music and laser light projections, to both underscore their display's theme and character and to present a synchronized light and sound spectacular. Spectators can enjoy the fireworks shows broadcast live on TDM Macao TV Channel with their background music streaming from TDM and Radio Macao's Chinese Channel (FM 100.7) every scheduled evening. In addition, MGTO will join hands with the General Union of Neighbours Association of Macau to present the popular Fireworks Carnival during display nights.

This year, residents and visitors can choose to enjoy the fireworks at 'Anim'Arte NAM VAN', the city's new lakeside landmark for leisure, culture and creativity, while relishing gourmet delights served at the café. It is also a place where visitors can enjoy different artistic performances with the unique colours of a handicraft market alongside cultural and creative shops as they stroll around for a relaxing evening.

In addition, this year, MGTO also partners with the local trade to roll out a first Macao lantern festivity along the waterfront promenade of One Central Macau concurrently during the Fireworks Display Contest, the Mid-Autumn Festival and the 1st October Golden Week. Residents and visitors can ride a Chinese-style boat out on the lake to enjoy both the beautiful fireworks and festive lanterns.
