Taipa Houses-Museum Revitalization Project Underway

The Taipa-Houses Museum will be transformed into a comfortable recreational area

The revamp of the five Taipa Houses-Museum has begun and is slated to be completed by the end of September, according to the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC). Following renovation, the green, Portuguese architecture-style mansions will comprise a quiet, colourful environment ideal for leisure and cultural exchanges, targeting residents and visitors alike, which will bring together elements of Portuguese culture exhibitions and performances plus creative and cultural industries, and more.

Following renovation, the mansions will house a display of cultural and creative products made by local artists, serving as well as a showcase for exhibitions and events of the consulates of several countries, while one mansion will be fitted out as the interior of a typical Macanese family home of the early 20th century, among others.

This will be the first major renovation of the complex since the opening of the Taipa-Houses Museum to the public in 1999. The works include major repairs and renovations of the mansions as well as the immediate environs, serving to conserve the area as well as maintaining the original features of the buildings.
