A tour bus crashed into a building on Rua da Entena (near Bao Kung Temple) on 8th August leaving 32 passengers injured. The Macao SAR Government activated its tourism crisis response mechanism and a meeting relating to medical treatment for the injured, support for the related travel agency, and extension of stay for the injured tourists, was held after the accident. The government is co-ordinating different governmental departments to handle the follow-up work.

According to the Public Security Police Force (PSP), the tour bus was parked on Rua da Entena next to Rua de Tomás Vieira, near the Ruins of St. Paul's. As the bus had been hit by a white van from behind, the bus driver was allegedly outside of the vehicle trying to resolve the lesser traffic accident. Meanwhile, tourists started boarding the tour bus but the brake had apparently not been properly applied or failed to function, and the bus started rolling down the road, hitting some of the railings, and coming to rest only after crashing into a building on Rua da Entena.

Officials from the Macao Government Tourism Office and the Tourism Crisis Management Office visited the crash site and the hospitals where the injured were treated in order to provide assistance to tourists affected by the accident. The accident has been reported to the China National Tourism Administration and the Guangdong Tourism Bureau. The government made arrangements to assist the relatives of those being treated in hospital to come to Macao. The Tourism Crisis Management Office also set up a 24-hour hotline for the injured and their relatives.

Chief Executive Chui Sai On visited the injured in Kiang Wu Hospital after the crash and listened to reports from different government departments regarding the situation of the injured. Chui Sai On said the priority was to help the seriously injured and take care of others hurt, while all departments should work together to handle the follow-up work.

Regarding the resettlement of residents from the damaged building, the Social Welfare Bureau activated the 'emergency resettlement and support scheme' with arrangements made for residents to move into hotels and the Centre for Victims of Disaster, located in Ilha Verde. The Bureau will also arrange to meet with residents to provide better support. Meanwhile, the building structure has been reinforced by the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau, which will ensure the stability of the structure and launch a preliminary reparation plan to help residents return to their homes as soon as possible.

The bus was carrying 44 tourists from several Mainland provinces who had travelled from Shenzhen in Guangdong Province to Macao. According to the latest information at 4:00pm on 31st August, 4 of the injured remain in hospital, while 4 of the tourists have stayed in Macau to accompany injured relatives or to enter into discussions on compensation. 36 tourists have already left Macao.
