Organised for the first time by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), co-ordinated by Macau Travel Agency Association and supported by China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), the 4^th Macao International Travel (Industry) Expo (MITE) was held from 2^nd to 4^th September. The Expo featured 370 booths run by nearly 200 enterprises and entities from 28 countries and regions. Tourism authorities from over 70 Mainland municipalities participated in the Expo, which attracted around 32,000 visitors, a 6.7 per cent increase over the last year, and over 300 professional buyers from major visitor source markets.

The Expo not only covered six key elements of the tourism industry - dining, accommodation, transportation, entertainment, sightseeing and shopping - but featured travel-related services, travel media, plus electronic commerce and technology in tourism among other aspects. As a new highlight of the Expo, the China – Portugal Tourism Seminar & Networking initiative successfully created a platform for tourism operators from China and Portugal to explore business and co-operation opportunities together.

Another highlight of the Expo is an array of seminars including 'Analysis of New Trends of FIT Travel in the Asia-Pacific Region' ; 'Smart Tourism Development and Internet Application Seminar' ; 'Tourism Destinations along the High-speed Railway Seminar' ; and 'Promotion of Hot Tourist Spots in 2016'. Professional speakers were invited to present the topics and inspired an insightful dialogue joined by industry delegates for a valuable exchange of perspectives.

MGTO unveiled a 144 sq. m. Macao pavilion at the Expo. Themed 'Experience Macao Your Own Style', the pavilion showcased the territory's destination glamour to industry professionals and visitors from around the world. The motorcycle rode by the champion of the 2003 Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, Michael Rutter, was on display along with a car-racing simulator for interactive fun, attracting numerous spectators.

During the Expo Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam met with Portuguese delegations of tourism officials and the tourism industry. MGTO met with delegations from the following entities; namely, the People's Government and Tourism Administration of Shaoguan Municipality, Qingyuan Municipal Tourism Bureau, the People's Government and Tourism Bureau of Xinhui District, Jiangmen, Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies and Portuguese trade delegates, as well as the Tourism Authority of Thailand (Hong Kong Office).
