MGTO Attend JATA Tourism Expo

MGTO booth at JATA Tourism EXPO Japan features UNESCO-listed heritage themed decoration

Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) displayed the city's attractions with a technology-fuelled promotion at the JATA Tourism EXPO Japan in Tokyo last month to attract more Japanese and other international visitors to Macao. JATA Tourism EXPO Japan, organized by the Japan Association of Travel Agents, is regarded as Japan's largest international and comprehensive travel show. The EXPO is Japan's main international and comprehensive tourism exhibition, as well as a privileged window for destinations to display their attractions to the Japanese market.

The JATA Tourism EXPO Japan Forum 2016 featured the Global Tourism Forum and the Asian Tourism Leaders' Forum among its major draws. MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes delivered a speech themed 'Green Meetings' in the MICE session stating the positioning of Macao's MICE industry as one of the city's development strategies, showcasing examples initiated by both public and private sectors to encourage the convention and exhibition sector to go green.

This year, the MGTO booth at JATA Tourism EXPO Japan featured a heritage-themed decoration and presented as its top attraction a virtual reality (VR) tour through Macao . After putting on a VR headset, visitors to the booth could embark upon a virtual trip through the territory, complete with bird's eye view of the city's UNESCO-listed heritage, new tourism complexes, a thrilling ride in a Macau Grand Prix race - and an adrenalin-fuelled Bungy Jump from the Macau Tower ! Another special feature of the MGTO booth was the Macao Food Truck, especially set up for the consumer days of the expo, on the weekend. The Macao Food Truck introduced some of Macao's favourite delicacies, prepared by two Macao food and beverage establishments.

Representatives from Macao's hotel, travel agency and airline sector joined MGTO at the expo to promote the city, with the booth also serving as a platform for the Macao trade to conduct business with international counterparts and to tap into the Japanese market.
