MGTO’s ‘Step Out, Macao’ Mobile App Introduces Japanese and Korean Versions

‘Step Out, Macao’ Mobile App has added Japanese and Korean information

Content of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) 'Step Out, Macao' Mobile App - originally in Chinese (traditional and simplified), English and Portuguese - is now available in Japanese and Korean as well thus reaching a wider audience for the eight 'Step Out, Experience Macao's Communities' walking tour routes exploring different districts around Macao.

The Mobile App can be downloaded for free from App Store or Google Play. Besides maps of the eight walking tour routes, the App offers descriptions of tourism spots including the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Macao, schedule of cultural performances, restaurants, bus routes, Wi-Fi locations, public sanitary facilities and other useful information along the routes. Users can also scan the QR codes on direction signs along the themed routes with their Smartphone to obtain nearby tourism information offline. Recognised by the 2016 PATA Gold Awards in the category of Marketing Media – Mobile Travel Application, MGTO's Mobile App is deemed an exceptional achievement in media marketing.

The Mobile App introduces eight redesigned walking tour routes traversing different parishes in Macao, Taipa and Coloane. Through the App, MGTO encourages visitors to explore diverse neighbourhoods, with the objective of balancing visitor flow around Macao and fostering community tourism development.

Japan and Korea have consistently been major visitor source markets for Macao. In the first nine months of this year, Macao has received 214,782 Japanese visitors and 477,454 Korean visitors, recording a year-on-year increase of 4.4 per cent and 16.3 per cent, respectively. By introducing different language versions and new features of the 'Step Out, Macao' Mobile App, MGTO hopes to offer more convenient and enriching travel experiences for visitors during their stay in Macao whilst attracting more international visitors to the city.
