IACM Unveils New Botanical Gardens in Seac Pai Van

The first phase of construction of the fragrance track and medicine valley ecological park has been completed.

The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) of Macao SAR Government is constructing new botanical gardens in Seac Pai Van, with the first phase of construction focusing on the park's track system located behind Seac Pai Van Park, in order to build a fragrance track and ecological medicine valley park as well as a garden of southern medicine. Occupying approximately 30,000 square metres, the primary purpose of this area is to introduce medical plants. The first phase of planning and construction of the fragrance track and medicine valley ecological park is finished and occupies approximately 1,300 square metres, with fragrant medicinal plants comprising the main exhibition.

Seac Pai Van Botanical Gardens comprise eight areas in all; namely, wetlands medical plant exhibition area, lithophytic medical plant exhibition area, sciophyte medical plant exhibition area, fragrant flowered medical plant exhibition area, mountain medical plant exhibition area, bamboo medical plants, conservation area of medical plants imported from southern areas, and a 'popular science' experience zone in the southern medicine garden.

To complement the new project in Seac Pai Van Park, ICAM will establish a butterfly and dragonfly ecological park next to the Park's bird sanctuary. ICAM also plans to cultivate nectar and larval food plants to attract butterflies in Spring, and will build an open butterfly garden, complete with wood trail and dragonfly ecological pond.
