Major projects for the year ahead promoting Macao as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure to be discussed during the meeting

The 2017 Annual Work Meeting of the Joint Working Committee on Tourism to Support Macao's Aspirations to Build a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure (Joint Working Committee on Tourism) will be held in Macao on 6th April. Representatives from the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), together with other related departments from Mainland and Macao will attend the meeting. In the meeting, the two sides will review the tourism situation and work undertaken in 2016, and discuss major projects for the year ahead of promoting Macao as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.

The topics to be discussed during this year's annual meeting of the Joint Working Committee on Tourism include implementation of the national tourism policies in favor of Macao, fostering Macao's transformation into a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, deepening tourism cooperation between the Mainland and Macao, expansion of inbound international tourism markets, among others on the agenda.

In last year's meeting, officials from the Mainland and Macao agreed upon a number of issues including new means of deepening regional tourism integration and co-operation between Macao and the Mainland, the application of diverse platforms to foster development, and the joint promotion of new tour routes and products. The parties also shared the Mainland and Macao's latest tourism trends, and exchanged ideas to strengthen co-operation on tourism industry management. The parties also signed the meeting memorandum.

In June 2015, the Macao SAR Government signed an agreement with CNTA to set up a Joint Working Committee on Tourism to Support Macao's Aspirations to Build a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, with progress made since the signing of the agreement.
