‘Macao Consul Invitation Small Dragon Boat’ takes to Water

The 2017 Macao International Dragon Boat Races - hosted by the Sports Bureau of Macao SAR Government and the International Dragon Boat Association of Macao, China - take place on the 27th, 28th and 30th May at the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre.

The Dragon Boat Races feature 10 competitions; namely, Macao Small Dragon Boat Race (Open Category, Women's Category), Macao Public Entities Small Dragon Boat Race, Macao University Students Small Dragon Boat Race (Open Category), Macao Civil Servants Invitation Small Dragon Boat Race, Macao Standard Dragon Boat Race (Open Category, Women's Category), Macao University Students Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race (Open Category) and Macao International Invitation Standard Dragon Boat Race (Open Category, Women's Category).

In the Sports Bureau press conference introducing the event president Pun Weng Kun said that this year will not only attract teams from all around the world but that the Macao Consul Invitation Small Dragon Boat Race will be organized for the first time. Pun said the new race can increase sports and cultural communications between Macao and the foreign communities in Macao and Hong Kong, and that cultural activities and parades performed by local groups in tandem with the event will maximise the synergies of major sports events, turning the race into one of the most attractive carnival-like attractions in the city.
